Derby opener for Wests Southern Conference League title defence

Derby opener for Wests Southern Conference League title defence

Wests Warriors will launch their defence of the Southern Conference League title this weekend – with a heavyweight showdown against old rivals Hammersmith Hills Hoists.

It will be a meeting of the competition’s two previous winners, as the Hills Hoists were the inaugural champions in 2019 before the Warriors hit back last year after the interruption for Covid in 2020.

Meanwhile London Chargers will aim to pick up where they left off in a stirring Betfred Challenge Cup derby against London Skolars back in January – with an away game against a North Herts Crusaders team celebrating their 10th season.

There is a third game in the SCL East as the Eastern Rhinos travel west from their Colchester base to face Bedford Tigers, while the five-team SCL West kicks off with a single fixture as Torfaen Tigers return to the competition after a two-year absence with a home game against Bath Gladiators in Pontypoool

London Skolars have been confirmed to host the 2022 SCL Grand Final on September 17 at their New River Stadium on White Hart Lane in Haringey.

The SCL East includes newcomers Brentwood Eels for 2022, while Hemel Stags will also return.

Devon Sharks, Swindon St George and the Bristol-based All Golds complete the SCL West.
