Application process for all Women's and Girls clubs to join in 2022 now open

After a record-breaking year in 2021 for Women's & Girls Rugby League, the RFL is delighted to announce that the application process for all clubs to join in 2022 is now open.

Jodie Cunningham is urging the growing numbers of Women's and Girls interested in taking up Rugby League to submit their applications to the RFL before the deadline for playing in 2022.

The St Helens and England star, who has made a massive off-field impact as Community Engagement Lead for RLWC2021, will take up a new role with the RFL as National Women's and Girls' Development Manager next month.

The application process for 2022 is now open, to be completed by new and existing clubs to allow management groups to revise playing structures for next season - and the deadline is Friday January 14 [see links to the application forms below].

As well as the growing success of the elite Women's game, with more media coverage and record crowds, 2021 saw a number of new Women's and Girls competitions created at various age groups - and the RFL are expecting even more applications for 2022 as more girls are inspired by the performances of the game’s new female stars.

The plan is to run development leagues for all age groups, which have proved ideal for new teams as they are flexible and can be played on a small-sided games basis, so teams do not need 17 players. Structured leagues with regular weekly fixtures will also be offered.

Jodie Cunningham said: "With all the success we had at St Helens and England last year, it was as exciting for us to see so many girls getting excited about Rugby League.

"There has been fantastic progress over the last few years, but I’m convinced this is the only the start.

"Rugby League is a brilliant game for women and girls to enjoy, and we have seen more and more people get behind the women’s game with growing fan bases and record crowds this year.

"With the platform of a home World Cup now in 2022, and the Women's Super League and other competitions continuing to develop on and off the field, the challenge is to make the most of this opportunity."
